Brief Bio

I am a full-time Tech Lead and Research Scientist at ByteDance/TikTok. I obtained my PhD degree from the Audio Information Research Lab of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Rochester in October 2020, under the supervision of Professor Zhiyao Duan, with the Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award of the School of Engineering and Applied Science in 2020.

My research interests lie primarily in the inter-disciplinary area of audio signal processing, machine learning, human-computer interaction and computer vision towards multimodal analysis of music. The long-term goal of my research is to design intelligent systems to help people interact with music. Specific problems that I have been working on include audio-visual singing voice separation, multi-model music performance analysis, cross-modal generation and retrieval, etc.

During my current employment at TikTok, I focus on building AI-powered tools to change the way people interact with music and promote content consumption among over 1 billion users. I led the R&D commitment into the first music interaction product in TikTok as industry pioneer, which carries inter-disciplinary techniques such as human-computer interaction, computer graphics, augmented reality, etc.

In July 2023, we released Ripple, the first stand-alone music creation App owned by ByteDance, where I am leading all the AI music creation algorithms. It is an innovative mobile App that provides comprehensive music creation and audio editing tools, powered by AI techniques.
